Man arrested on DUI charge at Berkshire Port of Entry

BERKSHIRE, VT — A 74-year-old man was arrested on a DUI charge at the Berkshire Port of Entry on June 6, 2026.

James Cooper, of East Fairfield, was attempting to enter the U.S. at approximately 6:54 p.m. when Border Patrol officials noticed he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Troopers from the St. Albans Barracks were notified and responded to the port of entry.

After an investigation, Cooper was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.

Cooper was transported to the St. Albans Barracks for processing.

He was issued a citation to appear in Franklin County Criminal Court on June 23, 2026, at 8 a.m.
