BARTON, VT — A 39-year-old man was arrested on a sexual assault charge following an investigation into an inappropriate relationship with a minor.
Malik Daley, of Barton, was taken into custody without incident on May 22 in Derby Line by troopers from the Derby Barracks.
Detectives from A Troop East began investigating on May 20 after receiving reports of an inappropriate relationship between Daley and an individual under age 16.
Through the investigation, troopers developed probable cause to believe Daley had sexually assaulted the underage victim on more than one occasion.
Daley was charged with sexual assault with a child less than 16 years of age.
He was transported to the Derby State Police Barracks for processing and will be brought to Orleans Superior Court in Newport for arraignment at a time to be determined by the court.
The Vermont State Police investigation remains open and active.
