PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County Police are investigating the death of an inmate who was assaulted by multiple individuals at the Allegheny County Jail.
The victim was identified as a 44-year-old male whose family has been notified.
Multiple incarcerated individuals entered the victim’s cell and assaulted him at 12:48 p.m. Tuesday, according to preliminary information from County Police.
The male was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Everyone involved in the incident is accounted for.
County Police are leading the criminal investigation.
An internal review by Allegheny County Jail officials will also be conducted.
The Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner will release the identification of the individual and cause and manner of death according to its protocols.
