Man arrested on firearms charges in Meriden

MERIDEN, CT — A man was arrested on firearms and other charges after police observed him operating a scooter erratically on a sidewalk downtown.

Members of the Meriden Police Department Crime Suppression Unit were conducting proactive patrols in the area of the downtown green on May 5 when they observed a man operating a scooter on the sidewalk near 64 East Main St.

The man, later identified as Julian Bradford, 32, of Meriden, was operating the scooter in an erratic manner, police said.

Officers made contact with Bradford in a parking lot on Pratt St.

A 9mm firearm and a high-capacity magazine were located on Bradford’s person, according to police.

Bradford is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms, police said.

A check of the scooter Bradford was riding determined it was stolen out of Stamford, police said.

Bradford was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a high capacity magazine, larceny of a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, improper operation of a motor vehicle on a sidewalk and operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension.

He was held on a $350,000 bond to appear in Meriden Superior Court.
