WORCESTER, MA — Two men were arrested Tuesday after detectives patrolling a city neighborhood spotted one with an active warrant and discovered another carrying a firearm, police said.
Detectives assigned to the Worcester Police Department Crime Gun Intelligence Unit were patrolling the area of Sever Street and Merrick Street around midday when they observed Cedric Tolson, 20, of Worcester, walking with two other males.
Detectives knew Tolson had an active warrant for his arrest and stopped the group.
While placing Tolson under arrest, detectives observed a bulge in the front waist area of Ruben Barcelo, 18, of Worcester.
Detectives recognized the bulge from their training and experience as a way people illegally carry firearms, police said.
Upon lifting Barcelo’s shirt, detectives located a semiautomatic firearm.
The firearm was removed from Barcelo and he was placed under arrest.
Barcelo was charged with possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
Tolson was arrested on the warrant and drug charges.
A third male, 22, was not charged.
