FAIRFIELD, NJ — A Short Hills man has been charged with stealing propane tanks from a local business.
Jason Bostian, 39, of Short Hills, was arrested in connection with a theft that occurred on April 10, 2026.
Police say Bostian drove to Atosa USA Inc. on Gardner Road at approximately 3:43 a.m. and removed nine 33-pound propane tanks from an outside storage cage.
The tanks were placed into his vehicle, a black 2007 GMC Yukon, according to police.
Bostian allegedly attempted to conceal the license plate on his vehicle by covering it during the crime, which was captured on video surveillance.
The total value of the tanks is reported to be over $2,400.
Fairfield Detective Sergeant Jeffrey Didyk alerted surrounding towns about the theft and was contacted by detectives in Millburn, Denville, East Hanover and Livingston, who were working similar cases involving a black GMC Yukon.
With the assistance of automated license plate readers throughout the area, investigators were able to identify Bostian as the suspect and his vehicle.
Police allege Bostian was reselling the stolen tanks for a profit on Facebook Marketplace.
Bostian was charged on April 28, 2026, processed and released pending an initial court appearance.
