BELLEFONTE, PA — A juvenile riding an electric scooter was injured after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Wilson Street and High Street.
Video obtained from a nearby residence shows the juvenile, wearing dark clothing, failed to stop at a posted stop sign before entering the intersection and being struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Wilson Street.
The juvenile was transported by ambulance.
The Bellefonte Borough Police Department was assisted by the Spring Township Police Department, Undine Fire Company, Logan Fire Company, Bellefonte Emergency Medical Services and the Mount Nittany Emergency Medical Services.
The Bellefonte Borough Police Department is investigating the crash.
In light of the incident, the department issued a reminder that under current Pennsylvania Department of Transportation regulations, electric scooters are not classified as street-legal vehicles.
Electric scooters are restricted to private property and are prohibited from being operated on public roadways or sidewalks.
Only Class 1 and Class 2 electric bicycles are permitted on public roadways, and operators must be 16 years of age or older.
