LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A single-vehicle crash that left one person dead is under investigation.

Officers from the Lawrence Township Police Department responded to the area of Brunswick Pike northbound at the Kelly Viaduct, near the entrance to the Quakerbridge Mall, at approximately 11:07 p.m. Thursday for a report of a crash.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a witness who reported hearing what they believed to be a motor vehicle crash.

The witness then observed a dark-colored vehicle in a nearby body of water.

Responding officers confirmed that a vehicle had left the roadway and become submerged, with no indication that the operator or any occupants had exited the vehicle.

The Lawrence Township Fire Department, Lawrence Township Emergency Medical Services, and the Trenton Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team responded to assist.

Members of the Water Rescue Team entered the water and located the sole occupant of the vehicle, who was found to be deceased.

It was later confirmed that no other occupants were inside the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.

The operator was identified as Rickey Boone Jr., 22, of West Windsor, New Jersey.

Boone was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of his injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Boone was operating a 2012 Honda CR-V northbound on Brunswick Pike when he lost control, left the roadway, and entered the water.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lawrence Township Police Department in coordination with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team.
