SACO, ME — A motorcyclist died following a head-on collision on Portland Road on the morning of May 1, 2026.
The Saco Emergency Communications Center received 9-1-1 calls at 6:51 a.m. reporting a crash involving a motorcycle and a car in the area of 838 Portland Road.
Police said a gray Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound on Portland Road and attempted to pass a tractor trailer truck that was making a right turn into a business.
The motorcycle crossed the double yellow center lines into the path of a southbound red Chevy Equinox, leading to a head-on collision, according to police.
The motorcyclist was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was pronounced dead.
Police identified the deceased as Michael Petersen, 52, of Biddeford.
The driver of the Chevy Equinox was identified as Mickie Cyr, 53, of Saco.
Cyr was transported to Maine Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Portland Road was closed for several hours while the Kennebunk Police Department and Saco Police Department Crash Investigation Units responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
