Arrests made in South Windsor

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — South Windsor police arrested Sergio Lira, 29, of Hartford at 10:18 a.m. Friday after responding to Target on Buckland Hills Drive for a report of a repeat shoplifter attempting to steal items.

Police said Lira fled on foot when officers arrived but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.

During a search incident to arrest, officers found a wax fold containing suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Police said Lira stole about $1,129.62 in merchandise.

Officers also determined Lira had two active violation of probation warrants and one active failure to appear warrant, according to police.

Lira was processed and held on a total surety bond of $31,000 and was to be transported to Manchester Superior Court at 9 a.m. Monday, police said.

Police also arrested Denise M. Polk, 57, of Manchester at 4 p.m. Friday after responding to the Exxon station on John Fitch Boulevard for a report of an unresponsive woman in a parked vehicle.

Officers found Polk in the vehicle with a glass smoking pipe on her lap that is commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics, police said.

A search of the vehicle found suspected crack cocaine, a cutting blade and another glass pipe, according to police.

Polk was issued a misdemeanor summons and released at the scene on a $1,000 non-surety bond, police said.

She is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on May 13 at 9 a.m.

Police said Christopher J. Peters, 30, of East Windsor was arrested at 5:56 p.m. Saturday on an active warrant connected to a February theft of $145.30 in merchandise from Stop & Shop on Ellington Road.

Peters was transferred to South Windsor police custody from Manchester police, processed and released on a $2,500 non-surety bond, according to police.

Several hours later, officers responded to Target on Buckland Hills Drive for a report of a shoplifter in progress who had been escorted to the loss prevention office, police said.

Officers identified Peters as the suspect and arrested him on allegations he stole $149.54 in merchandise, according to police.

Police said Peters had previously been trespassed from the store and was additionally charged with first-degree criminal trespass.

He was processed and held on a $10,000 surety bond and was scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court at 9 a.m. Monday.

Police also arrested Kristen A. Wayner, 42, of South Windsor at 6:04 a.m. Monday on an active domestic violence warrant, according to police.

Police said the disorderly conduct charge stemmed from an early April incident in which Wayner engaged in violent, fighting and tumultuous behavior against a victim.

Wayner turned herself in at police headquarters, was processed and released on a $2,500 non-surety bond, police said.

She is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court at 9 a.m. Monday.
