Man arrested on aggravated assault charge in Barton

BARTON, VT — Vermont State Police arrested an 88-year-old man after he allegedly fired a weapon at another man who was scouting turkeys.

Troopers from the Derby Barracks received a call at 6:50 p.m. April 22, 2026, from Robert Burdick, 35, of Westmore, reporting he had been shot at while scouting turkeys for youth weekend.

An investigation indicated Robert Bristol Jr., 88, of Barton, had fired a weapon from his property on Kittredge Road toward Burdick.

Bristol was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault.

He was taken to the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks for processing.
