House fire displaces family in Blackwood

BLACKWOOD, NJ — Gloucester Township police were dispatched to Amber Court for a report of heavy smoke coming from a residence at approximately 5:06 p.m. on April 23, 2026.

Upon arrival, officers and fire department personnel observed heavy smoke emanating from the residence, along with a locked front door.

Firefighters forced entry to ensure no occupants were inside in need of assistance.

It was subsequently determined that no residents were home at the time of the fire.

Fire suppression efforts were led by Squad 88, staffed by Gloucester Township Fire Districts 2 and 4, Pine Hill Fire Department, Chews Landing Fire Department (Station 82), Blackwood Fire Company (Station 84), Erial Fire Department (Station 86), and Lambs Terrace Fire Company (Station 85).

The fire was brought under control at approximately 5:17 p.m.

The residence sustained heavy smoke and soot damage and has been deemed uninhabitable, displacing the family.

The Gloucester Township Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross were notified; however, their services were not required as the residents have secured alternate housing arrangements.

There were no reported injuries to emergency personnel or residents.

Two pets located inside the residence were found deceased by fire personnel.

The Station 84 Fire Marshal is currently conducting an investigation.

At this time, the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
