QUEENS, NY — State Police have arrested a 20-year-old Albany man in connection with a March 22 crash on the Grand Central Parkway that left three passengers trapped in a burning vehicle.
Mohammad Haque, of Albany, was arrested following an investigation into the single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 1:10 a.m. near Exit 11.
Troopers assigned to Troop NYC, SP Ward’s Island, were patrolling eastbound on the Grand Central Parkway when they observed a tan Infiniti that had collided with a tree and was fully engulfed in flames.
Three passengers remained trapped inside the vehicle.
Haque, identified as the operator, had exited the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
Troopers immediately deployed a fire extinguisher from their patrol vehicle in an attempt to suppress the fire.
Officers from the New York City Police Department who were in the area stopped to assist.
Working together, Troopers and NYPD officers were able to safely remove all three passengers from the vehicle.
All four occupants were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
Following an extensive investigation, State Police Investigators assigned to Troop NYC Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that Haque’s actions led to the crash.
Haque was arraigned on April 16 on three counts of assault in the second degree, a class D felony; two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor; reckless endangerment in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor; reckless driving, a misdemeanor; and speed not reasonable and prudent, a violation.
