LYNDON, VT — An 18-year-old man faces multiple charges after police investigated a video circulating on social media showing a puppy being thrown.
The Lyndonville Police Department became aware of the video on April 20.
The video shows the man holding an 8-week-old puppy named Bullet before throwing it out of view of the camera, according to police.
Police determined the incident occurred in Lyndon during the morning of April 20.
The man is charged with attempted aggravated animal cruelty, a felony, and animal cruelty, a misdemeanor.
He also faces charges of aggravated domestic assault in the second degree, a felony, and violation of conditions of release, a misdemeanor.
The man’s identity is being withheld under Vermont’s Youthful Offender Laws.
A patrol officer contacted the puppy, which is alive and with its owner.
The dog is scheduled to be evaluated by a veterinarian at police expense.
Under Vermont law, a youthful offender case may be moved into adult court after initial appearances in family court, but until that occurs, the accused’s name is withheld.
