POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A woman was arrested on felony charges after a traffic stop early Sunday morning.
New York State Police in Wappinger conducted a traffic stop on a GMC traveling southbound on Church Street at approximately 12:58 a.m. April 18, 2026, for a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
The operator, identified as Deneen C. Majors, 39, of Poughkeepsie, displayed signs of intoxication during the stop.
Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, which Majors failed.
Two children, ages 10 and 13, were in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
Majors was taken into custody and transported to State Police Wappinger for processing, where she refused to submit to a chemical breath test.
The children were safely released to a sober third party.
Majors was charged with two counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger (Leandra’s Law), class E felonies; Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the first degree, a class E felony; Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor; and Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
Majors was issued traffic tickets returnable to the City of Poughkeepsie Court on April 27, 2026, at 8 a.m.
