Woman arrested on drug charges in Malta

MALTA, NY — A traffic stop initiated by an automated license plate reader led to drug charges against a Hoosick Falls woman Sunday afternoon.

Angel M. Gifford, 33, of Hoosick Falls, was arrested following the stop at 2:53 p.m. on state Route 9P, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Gifford was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, class A misdemeanors.

She is accused of knowingly and unlawfully possessing 500 milligrams or more of cocaine.

Two minor children were in the vehicle at the time of the stop, and evidence of narcotic use was observed inside the vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Gifford was arraigned before the Honorable James Fauci in Malta Town Court and released on her own recognizance pending further proceedings.

The charges are not considered qualifying offenses for the purpose of setting bail under New York state law.

She was subsequently turned over to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding warrant.
