ONEIDA, NY — Police peacefully resolved an armed standoff with a suicidal man who barricaded himself in a shed April 15.
The Oneida City Police Department was dispatched to a residence on Rocky Road at approximately 6:20 a.m. for a report of a male subject in possession of a firearm.
Officers determined the man had been involved in a domestic-related incident earlier that morning.
The individual was actively threatening self-harm and had barricaded himself inside an exterior shed on the property while armed with a rifle.
Oneida City Police, in coordination with the New York State Police and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, established a perimeter and implemented critical incident response protocols.
Through coordinated efforts, communication and de-escalation techniques, officers brought the situation to a safe and controlled conclusion.
The subject ultimately surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident.
No injuries were reported during the event.
Following the incident, the individual was transported to a medical facility to receive evaluation and access to services addressing underlying mental health concerns.
The subject’s name is not being released at this time.
