GREECE, NY — A Rochester man was arrested April 9, 2026, after a license plate reader detected a stolen vehicle on West Ridge Road.
Officers responded to the alert at approximately 7:46 p.m. and located the vehicle.
Malik Scales, 28, of Rochester, was arrested at the scene.
Two passengers in the vehicle were briefly detained during the investigation.
Police determined the passengers had been dining at a restaurant and accepted a ride back to Rochester from Scales.
Scales told officers he had recently purchased the vehicle on Lyell Avenue for $300 and used it to provide rides to passengers.
Officers determined the passengers had no involvement in the incident and released them at the scene.
Scales was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, unauthorized use of a vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree.
He was processed and released on an appearance ticket.
