Student found with firearm in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A student was found in possession of an unloaded firearm at Middletown High School on April 8.

The Middletown Police Department was notified at approximately 10 a.m. of a report that a student may have been in possession of a weapon on school grounds.

Officers were immediately dispatched, and school officials initiated a shelter-in-place protocol while the situation was investigated.

During the investigation, officers located an unloaded firearm inside a student’s backpack.

Law enforcement personnel took swift action to secure the weapon and safely resolve the situation.

Based on preliminary findings, there is currently no evidence to suggest that any threats of harm were made toward students or staff.

The shelter-in-place order has since been lifted, and normal school operations have resumed.

Officers from the Middletown Police Department remain on site as a precaution and to support school administrators.
