WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT — The Hartford Police Department is investigating an unattended death after a body was discovered beneath a bridge April 4, 2026.
Police responded at 2:02 p.m. to a report of an unresponsive person beneath the Urban Bridge, which spans U.S. Routes 4 and 5.
A passerby discovered the individual and called 911.
Responding officers located the person beneath a support structure on the south end of the bridge.
The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The deceased was identified as Jason Bennett, 40, of St. Albans.
A preliminary investigation did not reveal any obvious signs of trauma.
A Medical Legal Death Investigator from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene.
Bennett was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending autopsy results.
Police said they had no prior involvement with Bennett.
