DOVER, NH — A Dover man was arrested following a two-hour standoff with police Sunday evening.

Francis Alix, 68, of Dover, was charged with resisting arrest or detention and criminal threatening.

Dover Police officers first responded to Alix’s residence at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the request of the Newmarket Police Department to serve an arrest warrant for stalking.

Officers were unable to contact Alix at that time and again the following afternoon.

Police responded a third time around 7:30 p.m. Sunday after a family member expressed concern for Alix’s welfare.

Officers obtained a key and entered the residence to check on Alix and serve the warrant.

Alix retreated to an upper floor, barricaded himself in a room and threatened to kill the officers, according to police.

Patrol officers backed out and requested assistance from the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit.

Officers attempted to contact Alix for approximately two hours without success.

Alix exited his residence shortly after 10:00 p.m. but failed to follow commands from law enforcement.

He was taken into custody following deployment of a less-lethal munitions system and the Dover Police Department’s K9.

Alix was transported to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

He later refused bail and was brought to the Strafford County Department of Corrections.

Alix was scheduled for arraignment Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the 7th Circuit Court – District Division – Dover.
