LEWISTOWN, PA — An inmate at the Mifflin County Correctional Facility is facing charges after allegedly distributing medication to other inmates.
Cole Garrett Smith, 33, of Lewistown, was charged with furnishing controlled substance contraband to confined persons after jail staff observed him concealing buprenorphine, an opioid medication, in his cheek on March 26.
Staff had been monitoring Smith when he was taking his medications and confronted him after observing him “cheeking” a pill, at which point Smith swallowed the pill.
A urine drug test was administered to Smith’s cellmate, who had been incarcerated for seven months and was not prescribed the medication.
The cellmate tested positive for buprenorphine and admitted to receiving the medication from Smith during an interview with the department’s narcotics investigator.
