SHELTON, CT — Police have arrested a man accused of robbing a gas station at gunpoint just two days after he was released from custody on a previous robbery charge.

Steve Nakhoune, 34, of Shelton, was arrested on charges of robbery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree, larceny in the fifth degree and assault in the third degree of an elderly person.

Police responded to the Shell Gas Station at 99 Bridgeport Ave. on March 11 for a report of an armed robbery.

The suspect entered the gas station armed with a sawed-off shotgun, pointed the weapon at the cashier’s face and demanded money, according to police.

The suspect then forced the victim to the ground before fleeing the scene.

The suspect arrived in a stolen pickup truck traveling with a Toyota Camry operated by an associate, police said.

Detectives McMahon and Nugent identified Nakhoune as the suspect and secured an arrest warrant.

Nakhoune had been released from custody on March 9 on a court-set bond following a strong-arm robbery incident in Shelton on Feb. 21.

Following the March 11 incident, Nakhoune and his associates engaged in a multi-state crime spree throughout the New England region, committing numerous larcenies, burglaries and robberies, and actively engaging law enforcement in pursuits across Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire, police said.

Nakhoune was apprehended by Northampton, Massachusetts, police on March 14 with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police.

He was extradited to Connecticut on March 19 and is being held on a $750,000 bond.
