CANTON, CT — The Canton Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving individuals impersonating police officers.

The department received multiple calls this morning from residents returning missed calls that appeared to come from the department’s non-emergency line at 860-693-0221 and displayed a caller ID of “Canton Police.”

No reports have been received of callers requesting payment at this time, according to police.

The Canton Police Department will never call residents to request money or payment of any kind, gift cards, bank or credit card information, or personal information to settle a warrant or investigation, police said.

Residents who receive one of these calls should hang up immediately and not engage with the caller, police said.

Residents should not provide personal information such as addresses, Social Security numbers, banking information or passwords, police said.

Residents should not send money, as no legitimate law enforcement agency will request payment over the phone, police said.

Residents who are unsure about a call should contact the department directly using a publicly listed number, police said.

Residents should report any incidents to the Canton Police Department so officials can track activity, police said.
