PALISADES PARK, NJ — A 40-year-old New York man faces multiple drug charges after police discovered nearly 500 grams of crystal methamphetamine in a safe he was carrying, authorities announced.
Husam Fooda, of East Elmhurst, NY, was arrested on charges of possession of crystal methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute, hindering apprehension and six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near 4th Street and East Palisades Boulevard on March 9, 2026, according to Police Chief George Beck.
Sergeant Theodore Christolias and Officers Salvatore Farnese, Michael McDermott, Frank Martini, Chang Han and Travis Bennet located a man matching the description.
Fooda provided Officer Martini with a false name and date of birth, police said.
Officers determined Fooda’s true identity and discovered he had outstanding warrants from Jersey City, Marlboro Township, Wayne Township and Paterson.
At the time of his arrest, Fooda was in possession of six items of drug paraphernalia and a locked, medium-sized safe.
Detective Brian Kunz applied for and obtained a search warrant for the safe.
The warrant was executed on March 19, 2026, revealing approximately 499 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
Detective Sergeant Michael Lee and Detective Kunz traveled to the Morris County Jail to formally process Fooda on the additional charges.
