ROME, NY — A Rome man was arrested early Wednesday after police found a damaged utility pole and downed wires on West Dominick Street.
An officer with the Rome Police Department was on patrol in the 500 block of West Dominick Street around 12:30 a.m. when the damaged National Grid utility pole and downed wires were observed.
The damage appeared to be the result of a motor vehicle collision and the vehicle may have fled the scene.
Officers conducted an area check of the surrounding area and located a red Ford F-150 displaying damage consistent with the incident on North Jay Street at West Dominick Street.
Following an investigation, police arrested John D. Coccia, 55, of Rome.
Coccia was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher.
Coccia was processed at Rome Police Headquarters and subsequently released with an appearance ticket.
