BOSTON, MA — A 17-year-old was arrested after allegedly fleeing from police and discarding a loaded firearm in the Cathedral Housing Developments area Friday evening.

Officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made the arrest at about 6:05 p.m. in the area of 2 East Brookline Street.

Officers were patrolling the Cathedral Housing Developments when they turned into the parking lot area of Monsignor Reynolds Way and observed three males standing in the courtyard.

As officers entered the parking lot, the group began walking away, with the 17-year-old juvenile walking in a hurried manner with long strides.

The group then intentionally walked behind dumpsters to further conceal themselves from officers.

Another group of officers approached from behind and observed the juvenile separate from the group and walk away at a quick pace.

The juvenile looked back at officers on four different occasions and then began to record them.

The juvenile then took a turn towards 42 Harrison Archways and, without warning, broke out into a full sprint towards East Brookline Street and Washington Street.

While in pursuit, officers observed the juvenile clutching his waistband.

As officers began to close the distance, they observed a hooded sweatshirt and firearm fall from the juvenile’s person and heard the firearm strike the ground.

Officers placed the 17-year-old juvenile of Roxbury into custody.

Officers secured the firearm, which was determined to be a 9mm ghost gun with a purple slide, black receiver and purple magazine.

The firearm was loaded with one round in the chamber and fifteen rounds in the large-capacity magazine.

During a search of the suspect, officers located a black fanny pack within a backpack that contained narcotics, a knife containing white powdery residue on the blade, drug paraphernalia and one live 9mm round.

Officers recovered 199 fentanyl pills weighing approximately 30 grams, one plastic bag containing approximately five grams of crack cocaine and one additional gram of loose crack cocaine.

The 17-year-old juvenile suspect is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of ammunition without an FID card, trafficking fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs.
