Avon man arrested on felony DWI charges in Avon

AVON, NY — A 72-year-old man faces felony charges following a UTV crash investigation that revealed he was driving with a revoked license and a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.

Clifford Greer, of Avon, was arrested June 6 and charged with felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the First Degree, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, according to Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty.

Deputies were dispatched to the area of Harper Parkway in the Town of Avon at approximately 6:13 p.m. April 8 for a reported motor vehicle crash involving a UTV.

Deputies made contact with Greer, who was identified as the operator, and suspected he was under the influence of alcohol.

Deputy Hayden Strobel of the Sheriff’s Office STOP DWI Unit conducted a DWI investigation and secured a blood sample to determine Greer’s blood alcohol content.

The initial investigation found that Greer was operating the UTV while having a revoked New York State Driver’s License due to a prior DWI-related offense.

The blood sample revealed Greer’s blood alcohol content the day of the crash was .18 percent.

Greer was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for arrest processing and pre-arraignment detention.

He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part before Town of Caledonia Justice Mackay.

The judge remanded Greer to the custody of the Sheriff without the possibility of bail due to him having two or more prior felony convictions.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Greer at the arraignment, and the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office appeared to represent the People.
