DOUGLAS, MA — A woman was injured while horseback riding along the Reservoir Trail in the Douglas State Forest on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. when the woman sustained a leg injury that left her unable to walk.
Douglas police and the town fire department responded to the scene and faced the challenge of extracting the injured woman through approximately one mile of difficult terrain to reach the nearest road.
Two local residents, Brian Devlin and Kenneth Gouin, assisted responders by transporting the woman by pontoon boat to a nearby staging area where an ambulance was waiting.
The woman was then transported to a hospital.
Police said the assistance from Devlin and Gouin substantially reduced the time and resources necessary for the rescue operation.
