Man arrested on attempted murder charge in Trenton

TRENTON, NJ — A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a home invasion, assault and arson that occurred in May.

Karon Oliver, of Trenton, was apprehended by members of the United States Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force on June 3 at approximately 5:15 a.m. in Morrisville Borough, Pennsylvania, without incident.

Oliver is charged with criminal attempt murder, home invasion burglary, aggravated assault, aggravated arson, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.

On May 16 at approximately 7:33 a.m., Trenton Police and Fire Department resources were dispatched to 756 Pennington Avenue for a report of a house on fire.

While patrol units were responding to the location, they were flagged down by a citizen and directed to a victim of an assault.

It was determined that the victim was an occupant of the residence that was on fire.

According to the investigation, in the early morning of May 15, Oliver forced his way into the residence at 756 Pennington Avenue armed with a weapon.

While inside, Oliver struck the victim with the weapon, causing bodily injury.

While fleeing from the suspect, Oliver threatened to burn the house down.

The victim was found shortly thereafter by patrol units responding to the fire several blocks away from the residence.

Fire personnel evacuated all residents, and no injuries were reported.

Based on the investigation, it was determined that Oliver set a fire on the first floor of the residence.

Oliver was found in possession of a controlled dangerous substance during a search incidental to arrest.

Additional charges were signed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Criminal Court.

Oliver is currently detained for the charges in the Bucks County Correctional Center pending further court proceedings and extradition.
