ATV, dirt bike seized in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Springfield police arrested two men and seized two off-highway vehicles during enforcement details conducted over two days.

On Thursday, officers observed an ATV rider without a helmet on Hancock Street in the early evening.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the rider continued into a driveway on Leyfred Terrace where Tomeco Kelly was placed under arrest.

The ATV was seized and towed.

On Saturday afternoon, officers observed a dirt bike rider without a helmet in the area of Carew Street and St. James Avenue.

The rider, later identified as Eulysses Hernandez Jr., was riding on the wrong side of the street, cutting off traffic.

Officers placed Hernandez Jr. under arrest when he stopped on Farnsworth Street.

The dirt bike was seized and towed.

Kelly, 52, of Springfield is charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license – subsequent offense, failure to stop for police, operating a snow/recreational vehicle on a public way, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle and snow/recreational vehicle helmet violation.

Hernandez Jr., 19, of Springfield is charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a snow/recreational vehicle on a public way, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, snow/recreational vehicle helmet violation and negligent operation of an off-highway vehicle.
