CHATEAUGAY, NY — New York State Police arrested Edward N. Gehrig, 30, of Chateaugay on April 19, 2026, charging him with three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and one count of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., troopers responded to John Street in the village of Chateaugay for a report of a domestic incident.

An investigation determined Gehrig was involved in a verbal argument with a 12-year-old male, which escalated when he placed his hands around the child’s neck and applied pressure.

Gehrig released the child, who was able to get away.

Other children were present and witnessed the incident.

Gehrig was taken into custody and transported to State Police Malone for processing.

He was arraigned in the Town of Chateaugay Court and remanded to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.
