HORNELL, NY — A 43-year-old man was arrested on a felony criminal mischief charge stemming from a January incident in Canisteo.

Justin E. Nelson was taken into custody March 21 in Hornell by Canisteo Village Police with assistance from Hornell Police.

Police said they were dispatched around 2 a.m. Jan. 24 to a residence on Stephens Street in Canisteo for a reported disturbance and property damage.

Investigators allege Nelson damaged a victim’s vehicle, causing all four tires to become flat and shattering the rear window.

Nelson was not at the scene when officers arrived.

Police said attempts to contact Nelson were unsuccessful and an arrest warrant was obtained.

Nelson was charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and second-degree harassment.

He was transported to Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment processing, where he was held as a fugitive of justice for an out-of-state crime.

The case will be heard in Canisteo Village Court.
