Fatal crash investigated in Chateaugay

CHATEAUGAY, NY — New York State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on State Route 11 on Jan. 28, 2026.

Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 12:15 a.m. for a serious personal injury accident.

An investigation determined that a 2023 black Ford Ranger, operated by Ryan E. Bordeau, 24, of Malone, was traveling west on State Route 11 with passenger Jennifer S. Hathorn, 49, of Chateaugay.

While traveling west, Bordeau lost control of the vehicle, causing it to exit the roadway onto the north shoulder.

Chateaugay Fire Department and Foothills EMS responded to the scene and administered life-saving measures to Hathorn.

Despite these efforts, Hathorn was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Troopers interviewed Bordeau regarding the accident and observed signs of impairment.

Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, and Bordeau failed them.

Bordeau was transported to SP Malone for further questioning, where he provided a breath sample that resulted in a .10% BAC.

He also provided a blood sample at Alice Hyde Medical Center.

As a result of the investigation, Bordeau was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter in the 2nd degree and Driving While Intoxicated.

He was arraigned in the Town of Malone Court and released on his own recognizance.

Members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
