HORNELL, NY — Police arrested a woman after she was seen on Facebook Live setting fires inside her apartment early Wednesday morning.
Hornell Police were alerted to 52½ Fulton St. in the early morning hours of Oct. 22, where a woman was seen on Facebook Live lighting paper towels on fire and placing them into a hole in the drywall of her apartment.
Police immediately responded and extinguished a fire at that location.
The Hornell Fire Department also responded to the scene and assisted with clearing the area of any fire concerns within the walls of the multi-dwelling apartment house.
Due to the burn damage, Hornell Codes Officer Bud Burdett was called to the scene, and the apartment was determined to be unsuitable for occupancy.
After further investigation, Angela Smith, 42, of Hornell, was arrested and charged with second-degree arson, a class B felony, first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor.
She was arraigned at Steuben County CAP and was remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
