Hartland crash kills 1, injures 2 on Route 12

HARTLAND — A head-on collision on Vermont Route 12 killed a 35-year-old Hartland man and seriously injured two Connecticut residents Saturday afternoon.

Jamison O’Neil was driving a 2017 Toyota Rav4 southbound on Route 12 near Cobb Hill Road when his vehicle collided head-on with a northbound 2007 GMC Sierra at approximately 1:02 p.m., according to Vermont State Police.

O’Neil was declared dead at the scene.

The Sierra’s driver, Joseph Petrone, 77, of Cos Cob, Connecticut, and his passenger, Angela Petrone, 76, also of Cos Cob, were transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with serious injuries.

Both Petrones were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

O’Neil was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Both vehicles were totaled in the collision.

Road conditions were dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash.

Vermont State Police from the Royalton Barracks responded to the scene along with the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, Windsor Fire Department, Hartland Fire Department and Legendary Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
