WESTMORE — The Westmore Association is inviting local artists to participate in the annual Willoughby Plein Air Paint-out on the weekend of August 2-3, offering painters the opportunity to capture the scenic beauty of the Lake Willoughby area.

The plein air painting event, which takes artists outdoors to paint landscapes directly from nature, showcases one of Vermont’s most picturesque regions. Lake Willoughby, nestled between Mount Pisgah and Mount Hor, provides a dramatic backdrop with its deep glacial waters and surrounding wilderness.

Artists can register from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, at the Westmore Fellowship Hall, located at 27 Hinton Hill Road, adjacent to the Westmore Town Office.

During registration, canvases will be stamped to ensure authenticity and artists will receive a map of approved painting locations throughout the area. The locations include private residences along Willoughby Lake’s shoreline as well as other scenic spots throughout the region, giving painters diverse subjects from lakefront vistas to rural landscapes.

Artists will have the full day Saturday to work on their pieces, with completed paintings due back by 3 p.m. This timeframe allows painters to capture different lighting conditions throughout the day, from morning mist over the lake to afternoon shadows on the mountainsides.

A reception and award ceremony will take place Sunday, August 3, at 1 p.m. at the Westmore Fellowship Hall, where the community can view the completed works and celebrate the artistic talent in the region. Artists are welcome to sell their works during the reception, providing an opportunity for art enthusiasts to take home a piece of the Lake Willoughby experience.

The registration fee is $15. For questions, contact Pam at [email protected] or call (802) 673-0458.
