WATERTOWN — Members of the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at SP Watertown conducted an investigative operation July 23 at a residence on S Hycliff Drive in the city of Watertown.
The investigation was initiated after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provided a cyber tip to law enforcement.
Authorities identified Joseph J. Holub, age 45, of Watertown as the suspect.
Holub was arrested and charged with one count of promoting a sexual performance by a child less than 17 years of age, a class D felony, as well as two counts of possessing sexual performance by a child less than 16, both class E felonies.
Investigators determined that Holub was in possession of child sexual abuse material and had distributed child exploitation material over the internet.
Holub was arraigned in Watertown City Court and remanded to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
Bail was set at $10,000 cash, $20,000 secured bond, or $50,000 partially secured bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
