Brandon man charged with assaulting officer in Cornwall

CORNWALL — A Brandon man was arrested Monday evening after allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer during a family disturbance on Vermont Route 74.

Arron Giard, 24, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, aggravated disorderly conduct and violation of conditions of release following the 6:03 p.m. incident.

Vermont State Police responded to reports of a family fight in Cornwall.

Through investigation, police determined Giard had engaged in aggravated disorderly conduct.

When troopers attempted to take Giard into custody, he resisted arrest and assaulted a law enforcement officer, police said.

Giard had also violated court-ordered conditions of release.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Vermont State Police New Haven Barracks for processing.

Giard was issued court-ordered conditions of release and transported to Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility where he was lodged.

He was issued a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division on July 15 at 12:30 p.m.

Troopers were assisted by officers from the Middlebury Police Department.
