BRATTLEBORO — Police arrested 20 people on various charges between June 16 and June 29, according to a department press release issued Monday.
The arrests included two arson cases, multiple domestic assault incidents and several warrant arrests.
On June 16 at approximately 1:26 a.m., officers responded to Lipton Mart on Canal Street for a burglary alarm.
Investigation revealed someone broke glass to gain entry, stole merchandise and fled before police arrived.
Officers identified Kaanan Kain, 35, of Brattleboro as the suspect through surveillance video.
Kain was arrested later that day and held on $1,000 bail.
Also on June 16, officers encountered Phyllis Parent, 36, of Brattleboro at Pliny Park and arrested her for violation of conditions of release.
Raymond Wood, 78, of Brattleboro was arrested for aggravated assault following a disturbance at Colonial Motel on June 16.
On June 24 at approximately 12:41 a.m., police and fire departments responded to three separate fires near 873 Putney Road at Burton Car Wash.
Officers detained Darren Bolio, 47, who is homeless and from New Hampshire, nearby and arrested him for arson.
Bolio was held on $5,000 bail.
Frederick Habich, 58, of Guilford was arrested for arson following a fire at 228 Canal Street on June 26 at approximately 3:37 a.m.
Habich was held on $10,000 bail.
Other arrests included Joseph Higginbotham, 33, of Williston for retail theft at Hannaford on June 17.
Noble Lancey, 19, of Brattleboro was arrested for disorderly conduct and unlawful mischief at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital on June 17.
John Oja, 52, of Brattleboro was arrested three times during the period for domestic assault and violation of conditions of release.
Several people were arrested on active warrants, including Michael Tallman, 43, of Lyndon who turned himself in on June 18.
Ernest Edwards, 37, of Lewiston, Maine was arrested on a fugitive from justice charge for an extraditable warrant.
