RAMAPO — A police officer was kicked in the neck and injured while responding to a mental health call overnight, according to the Town of Ramapo Police Department.
Officers were called to assist mental health workers at a residence after they reported being threatened by a subject.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a combative individual who was resisting a lawful effort to transport him to the hospital for evaluation.
The subject initiated a standoff and violently kicked one of the officers in the neck during attempts to take him into custody.
The injured officer was treated and released from a local hospital.
The subject was also transported to a hospital and has been charged with assault in the 2nd degree and other related offenses.
