FAIRFIELD — A 25-year-old moped driver died after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on Post Road near South Benson Road on June 21.
Fairfield Police responded to several 911 calls reporting the crash at about 9:30 p.m.
The striking vehicle had left the scene before officers arrived, but police were able to locate both the vehicle and driver during their investigation.
Despite lifesaving measures taken at the scene, the moped driver later died from his injuries at a local hospital.
Police are not releasing the victim’s identity out of respect for the family.
The Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit took over the investigation.
Traffic in the area was closed for about three hours while investigators conducted an on-scene analysis and worked to determine the cause of the crash.
Police thanked community members who reported the crash and provided video footage to assist in the investigation.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
