HERKIMER — State police have identified the driver who died after his vehicle struck a tree June 18 as James M. Kowalczik, 43, of Herkimer.
Kowalczik was operating a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he exited the roadway and struck a tree, police said.
The crash occurred at 3:27 p.m. on West German Street in the village of Herkimer.
Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was headed east on West German Street when it exited the north shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree.
Kowalczik was the only occupant in the vehicle.
He was transported by ambulance to Wynn Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
