Fryeburg schools evacuated after bomb threats

FRYEBURG — The Fryeburg Police Department responded to bomb threats at Fryeburg Academy and Molly Ockett Elementary School on Friday.

Police received a report of a bomb threat targeting Fryeburg Academy at approximately 5:15 p.m.

A similar threat was reported concerning Molly Ockett Elementary School shortly after.

Both schools initiated emergency protocols, including immediate evacuation of Fryeburg Academy.

Students and staff from Fryeburg Academy were safely evacuated to designated off-site locations under supervision of school personnel and emergency responders.

Parents and guardians were notified through school communication channels and provided with reunification instructions.

Responding agencies included the Fryeburg Police Department, Fryeburg Fire Department, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, Maine State Police, the State Police Bomb Squad and Fryeburg Rescue.

Trained bomb disposal units conducted a thorough search of both school facilities.

Following exhaustive searches that included K9 units, both schools were determined to be safe and clear of explosive devices.

The all clear was issued at approximately 9 p.m.

The Fryeburg Police Department has initiated an investigation into the origin of the threats.

Making a bomb threat is a felony offense under Maine law.
