RYEGATE — A 20-year-old Newbury man remained in critical condition Monday after losing control of his motorcycle on Witherspoon Road.

Michael Sackett was airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center following the 8:21 p.m. crash Sunday, Vermont State Police said.

Sackett was believed to be taking a corner too fast when he lost control of his 2003 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 and slid off the road into the wood line, according to a witness at the scene.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.

Dylon Vance, 20, of Ryegate, who was traveling with Sackett on a separate motorcycle and witnessed the crash, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Vance was processed at the St. Johnsbury Barracks and released on a citation to appear at Caledonia County Superior Court.

The crash occurred under cloudy skies on dry road conditions.
