DERBY — A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Saturday for Living Waters Hospice House, the first dedicated hospice residence serving Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom.
The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. on May 31, 2025, at 295 Crawford Road in Derby, located between Newport Church of God and Northeast Kingdom Human Services.
The community-led project will address a critical gap in end-of-life care for residents of Orleans and Essex counties, where no residential hospice facility currently exists.
Living Waters Hospice House will begin with two private rooms and expand as needs grow, offering around-the-clock comfort and compassionate care for individuals who can no longer remain at home in their final days.
“This is more than a building—it’s a promise that no one in our region will face death alone,” said Pastor Larry Wall of Newport Church of God. “Living Waters Hospice House will be a peaceful, home-like space where care and community come together.”
The ceremony will include remarks by project leaders, including Wall, local supporters such as Patricia Sears of Graceful Transitions, and representatives from partnering organizations including Lyne Limoges of VNA & Hospice.
The facility will serve residents such as aging farmers who have outlived their families, elderly couples who can no longer care for each other, and working family members who cannot provide around-the-clock care.
Community members are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony and learn how they can support the project.
