SWANTON — The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington completed the autopsy on Joshua Many on Sunday, May 11, determining the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the torso.
The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
Many, 37, had recently been living in Swanton and was found deceased inside a home on 4th Street early Saturday morning.
Mitchal Shedrick, 52, a resident of the Swanton home where the incident occurred, was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder.
Shedrick is being held without bail at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans Town.
He is scheduled for arraignment at 1 p.m. Monday, May 12, in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in St. Albans.
The investigation began around 3:15 a.m. Saturday when police received multiple 911 calls from the 4th Street residence.
Vermont State Police investigators have indicated this was an isolated incident with no threat to the community.
The investigation involves members of the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search Team, Field Force Division and Victim Services Unit, with assistance from the Swanton Police Department.
The affidavit of probable cause will be filed with the court and made public following Shedrick’s arraignment.
