GUILFORD — A New Hampshire man faces multiple charges after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed chase while intoxicated on Interstate 91.

Thomas Holmes, 43, of Northfield, was arrested April 27 at approximately 12:23 a.m. after deputies with the Windham County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop his vehicle on I-91 southbound.

Deputies observed Holmes’ vehicle traveling at 86 mph in a posted 65 mph zone and failing to maintain its lane, according to authorities.

The vehicle eventually stopped near mile marker 4.4 in Guilford.

During the subsequent investigation, deputies determined Holmes appeared to be impaired by alcohol.

Holmes performed standardized field sobriety tests, which revealed further signs of impairment, officials said.

A preliminary breath sample showed Holmes had a blood alcohol content of 0.243%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%.

Holmes was arrested and transported to the Brattleboro Police Department for processing.

After processing, Holmes was taken to Southern State Correctional Facility and held until sober.

Holmes faces charges of eluding in a grossly negligent manner, grossly negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and driving under the influence, first offense.

He is scheduled to appear in court May 13.
