Pedestrian struck by vehicle following traffic stop on Route 5 in Brattleboro

BRATTLEBORO — A 42-year-old Putney man was struck by a vehicle on Route 5 Tuesday night after being released from a traffic stop conducted by Brattleboro Police.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:39 p.m. just north of the Brattleboro-Dummerston town line, about 50 minutes after police initiated the motor vehicle stop.

According to police, the man had been released from the stop and was free to leave but remained in the area on foot as officers continued their investigation.

Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the pedestrian and called for additional emergency services.

Brattleboro Fire Department and EMS, Dummerston Fire Department, Rescue Inc. and Vermont State Police responded to the scene.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Vermont State Police have assumed control of the crash investigation, which remains ongoing.
