RAYMOND — A Jeep caught fire and exploded on Route 101 Wednesday, causing a brush fire and shutting down westbound lanes for about an hour.
State Troopers from the Troop A barracks responded to the car fire on Route 101 westbound at 5:17 p.m. on April 30.
Investigators determined that Robert Andrada, 43, of Londonderry, had been driving a 2018 Jeep Wrangler when it began to smoke.
Andrada pulled to the right shoulder and exited the vehicle shortly before it caught fire, became fully engulfed and later exploded, igniting nearby brush.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
During the emergency, multiple drivers illegally backed down the highway against traffic flow and used restricted access crossovers, diverting additional resources.
New Hampshire State Police reminded drivers to obey all traffic laws to prevent further property damage or injuries.
The incident closed all westbound lanes of Route 101 for approximately one hour while emergency crews extinguished the fires.
Troopers were assisted by Raymond Police Department, New Hampshire Fish and Game, Raymond Fire Department, and Candia Fire Department.
